What the book is about
Laura lives with her father in a lonely castle in the woods. Then a carriage crashes outside their gate, and a girl named Carmilla comes to stay.
Carmilla is beautiful, strange, and very attached to Laura. Girls in the villages nearby start dying, and Laura starts getting sick. Written in 1872, 25 years before Dracula, it's one of the first vampire stories and a queer gothic classic. This edition is edited by Carmen Maria Machado, who adds her own introduction and notes.
